So when I was packing last week for my bachelorette trip (!!), I made sure to grab that book (2nd Chance by James Patterson) from the shelf it has been collecting dust on because I knew I had over 4 hours of plane/airport time ahead of me en route to Panama City Beach. Dallas Love Field being as wonderful as it is, I got through security in no time then text Tyler to tell him I was at my gate and a quick thanks for dropping me off even though that meant sacrificing an hour of sleep to do so :) and then got comfy at Gate 7 and read nonstop for the next two plane rides, pausing only to politely answer random comments from fellow passengers and order a drink. I read some while we basked on the beach and some more on the plane ride from Houston to Dallas (Emily and I were on the same flight out so we chatted until we went our separate ways at Hobby) and finished the book yesterday during lunch. Luckily, I stumbled upon an old Barnes and Noble gift card so on my way home I stopped by to stock up on some more books to get back into the habit because it only took one good book to suck me back in and I'm addicted.
I realize everyone has their preference of genre, but I'm all about the murder mysteries and the Women's Murder Club series by James Patterson is my newest obsession because it's got the two main things I love about books, it's a series and doesn't have a boring start. Stories are much more likely to grab your attention when they dive right in, Chapter 1 - Murder - BOOM - hooked, it's that easy. I realize it's necessary sometimes (every John Grisham book) in order for the story to makes sense, but I prefer that immediate interesting satisfaction.
Early last year I stumbled upon a site called Goodreads and immediately became obsessed with filling the virtual bookshelves and being able to see when I read what books. There's also a shelf for books I'd like to read so that I never forget a recommendation, which they also provide a list of based on what you've already read. Another cool thing is that there are book clubs through the site. I'm a member of a couple but really only to see what they're reading, I've never started a book with them or followed the discussion boards. I tried talking about my books with Tyler, but he has zero interest (why would he, he's not reading them), so a book club might not be the worst idea.
I don't always read the most sophisticated books (Chelsea Handler's books, albeit hilarious, probably aren't going to have papers written about them in high schools someday) but I thoroughly enjoy the hobby as a whole and am willing to chat books anytime!

A few of my favorites from my 2013 shelf (in no specific order):
There are many, many more, and most of them other products from these same authors. If you want to see what else I've read or am planning to read at some point, you can visit my Goodreads page and even leave a suggestion of your own! :) Happy reading!
