Striving for the Habit of Health

Since finding the Tabata HIIT workouts, I've tried to do at least one a day if not more. Obviously there are lazy days where it just doesn't happen but then there are days where I do 6 rounds. I usually find some ab & leg workouts to throw in with it it and altogether, I'm a huge fan. I love how some of the exercises have gotten easier but that it still gets my heart thumping. I love how easy it is to get it done, 4 minutes is impossible to justify "not finding the time" so I have stayed on track much better than past work out regimens.

This is my first summer as a resident in DFW and I'm finding out that the humidity is worse than I knew, still not as awful as South Louisiana, but I'm a West Texas gal and this thickness kills me when trying to run...so I don't. I'm debating taking Planet Fitness up on their $10/mo with no contract offer just so I can get in a few runs a week since it's obviously not going to happen until the air around here dries out.

I know nutrition is a big part of exercise, and I'm about 50% committed to eating healthy...give or take.

  • Since we only really go out to eat on the weekends, I basically never consume fried foods or soft drinks during the week.
  • We have an extensive coffee bar at my work so I usually drink green tea while I'm getting ready and then have 1 coffee once I make it to the office.
  • It's not the cheapest habit, but I have found coconut water flavors that I enjoy, and try to drink those as regularly as I can keep them stocked.
  • I have a water cup at work that I keep refilled so that I drink 1 - 2 1/2 quarts of water every work day (on the weekends it can get a little out of sight, out of mind)
  • Because BOREDOM = SNACKING I like to have snacks at the office such as bananas, greek yogurt, apples, oatmeal, etc. I really stock up for Donut Fridays aka The Best/Worst Day

I know I'm not the poster child for the healthiest lifestyle, but I still pat myself on the back for gradually getting better and better about my daily routine, knowing that if I keep it up then eventually I won't have to work at it, the embedded habits will just come naturally, and I am very much looking forward to that day.
